Chronoswiss – Master of Skeletonising

Fonte: Release da marca

Autumn is upon us, and what better way to celebrate the colourful season than by taking a closer look at two new watches that have already shed their horological leaves? Yes, we are talking about the art of skeletonising. Meet two new family members from Chronoswiss: The highly technical, progressive SkelTec and a new version of our classical Opus Chronograph.

A New Movement

The SkelTec features a new, radically designed C.304 movement that has been developed in the atelier in Lucerne, strengthening our position as an independent watchmaker. “This exclusive Chronoswiss movement takes artisanal, traditional skeletonising to warp speed – the name of this watch really makes sense,” says Head of Design Maik Panziera.

The result is an extremely see-through, matt-finished construction where the horological striptease is held in place by a futuristic, monobloc, horizontal X. The function is time only, but the vertical alignment is reminiscent of Chronoswiss regulators. The power reserve of the hand-wound 166-part movement is 48 hours.

Time for an Update

In 1995 the complex 300-part masterpiece Opus Chronograph advanced off the skeletonising chapter at Chronoswiss. The 2020 version bears a new geometry with a 41-millimetre diameter and shorter lugs, hugging the wrist more comfortably. You will also see the skeletonising clearer than ever before, as the sapphire crystal is getting a double anti-reflection treatment. Thankfully, the watertightness has been upgraded to 100 metres. We have also designed a limited edition where the subdials for date, chronograph hours and minutes and small seconds are blue and orange – adding colour to this horological opus from Lucerne.

Skeletonising

Did you know that skeletonising has been around since the 18th century? Today there are two main directions of skeletonising, classical and contemporary:
– Laboriously paring away all superfluous material, leaving nothing but a filigreed skeleton – which functions just as well as when fully fleshed.
– Designing a new movement like the C.304 from scratch, where radical, maximum reduction is already  achieved on the drawing board.

With Opus Chronograph and SkelTec, our team of watchmakers proudly show that Chronoswiss masters both.
